Hand out two copies of the peer review doc to each student. Read your own essay and complete the review. Then complete the review for a partner and then compare. Take this time to critically read/highlight your own doc.
Day 21 Final highlighting activity, Friday, March 8

Yellow = explanation of symbol (Story, memory, metaphor)
Green = Why is it important
Then have students complete the rubric as a self assessment. Give paper copy of rubric, number them all 1-9. Select the 2 sections you gave yourself the highest grade and the two lowest ones and explain your grades for those sections on the back of the rubric.

Find two documents for critical reading.
Select document for critical reading.
Quick write: KWL chart, discuss background information of article
Hand out article and have students number paragraphs.
Develop questions based on two items; The authors main points and questioning.
Half of the room will be taking notes on the actual documents, half the room will take notes on notebook paper. Compare the benefits of both methods, when would you use one over the other, etc.

Start new grade check documents and share with me. Then you will begin writing an email. Write an email to a parent/guardian as well as to me listing all of your current grades, your missing assignments along with a plan to turn those in, and one thing you are proud of for this quarter.
