World War I was one of the greatest conflict the world had ever seen. When it began, few could imagine the scope of the devastation it would cause or the millions of lives it would cost. At this time, human conflict was made worse by human ingenuity. New technology (such as the machine gun) combined with new industrial capability (used to manufacture war goods like artillery shells) made WWI a truly horrific event.
Yet, this great conflict between groups of countries was not the only conflict of the era. There was also conflict between humans and a wholly different kind of enemy: disease. In addition, conflicts that did not always escalate into violence took place between the rich and the poor, city and country dwellers, and even between horse-drawn wagon drivers and drivers of a new invention called the automobile. Several types of conflicts are listed below. Which type do you think has the most historical significance? Or do they all have the same potential to alter history? Explain your answer.
