Day 1 - Welcome (AKA Syllabus Day)
Tuesday 9/6
Welcome!
Daily Objective - The Daily Objective is what we hope to be able to do by the end of the class period. This often means that we will use words like analyze, summarize, describe, compare and contrast, and others to truly know if we actually met our objective. For example, you could say "By the end of today, we will have analyzed the course syllabus, learned more about each other, and will have a better understanding basic classroom expectations." Today's Daily Objective: Analyze the course syllabus, learn more about each other, and understand basic classroom expectations. Checklist: The Checklist is the order of the steps we need to take in order to meet our Daily Objective. Today's Checklist:

How do we measure a person's intelligence?
Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences:
Who was Howard Gardner?
What was the previous form of determining intelligence?
How does this impact us as students / teachers
Written Responses: In pairs, discuss the following questions. Give your responses in paragraph format.
Traditionally, people have defined someone who is intelligent as an individual who can solve problems, use logic to answer questions, and think critically. But psychologist Howard Gardner has a much broader definition of intelligence. Compare the traditional idea about intelligence with Gardner’s. How have his ideas changed the way we assess the strengths and weaknesses of people?
Why are linguistic intelligences (languages) and logical-mathematical intelligences (Math) more valued than other intelligences? Are they really more important?
One Criticism of Gardner’s theory is that he classifies talents as a type of intelligence. Critics might say that a talented dancer or artist is not necessarily smart. How would you reply to this criticism?
Does understanding multiple intelligences change how you view your own or others abilities?
Day 7 - Multiple Intelligence Continued
Wednesday 9/14
Sorting Celebrities Read the short Bio's of the four celebrities. Discuss in groups of 3-4 what intelligence you believe they best fit into. After all the groups have their guesses ready, come together to discuss what people found, and what they thought.

Creating a Multiple Intelligences test
Looking at the chart, come up with ways to test 5 of the different modules. REMEMBER, one of the main philosophies behind multiple intelligences is that pen and paper tests are not effective in gauging the wide ranges of intelligence, so be creative with your tests. Write your instructions for your five tests in paragraph format. Be clear and concise in your instructions.
